No Council Worker Sacked, Only Verified Staff Paid — Emohua LG Chair Clarifies

The Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Sir Chidi Lloyd, has debunked speculations that his administration sacked workers of the council, insisting that no staff has been dismissed.

In a statement issued on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Bright Jossy-Elendu, Lloyd clarified that August salaries are being paid to all verified staff, stressing that only those who failed to participate in the biometric verification exercise have not been credited.

He explained that the biometric system was introduced to eliminate irregularities in the council’s payroll and ensure that only genuine employees are compensated. “You can’t disappear during staff verification and suddenly appear during salary payment. Verification is the qualification for salaries,” the statement read.

According to the council boss, some individuals illegally inserted into the payroll by previous administrations deliberately avoided the verification exercise because they could not provide proof of employment. He disclosed that records also revealed several people drawing salaries from both Emohua Local Government and other state institutions, including Rivers State University.

Lloyd emphasised that his administration is committed to the welfare of legitimate workers and has no intention of victimising anyone. He warned, however, that no amount of blackmail or organised protest would derail his resolve to block financial leakages and end long-standing payroll fraud.

The chairman urged the public to disregard misleading reports, assuring that his government would continue to uphold accountability and transparency in the management of council resources.
