Fubara Hosts AfDB, Federal Officials on Port Harcourt Water Project Supervision Mission

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State on Friday received a high-level delegation from the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Federal Ministry of Finance, and the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

The visit formed part of a joint supervision mission on the ongoing Port Harcourt Water Supply and Sanitation Project, a multi-stakeholder initiative aimed at improving access to clean water and enhancing sanitation facilities in the state capital.

Governor Fubara, while welcoming the team, reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting programmes that directly impact the health and wellbeing of residents. He noted that sustainable water supply and effective sanitation are critical to urban development and public health, assuring the delegation of the state government’s readiness to partner fully for successful project delivery.

The delegation expressed appreciation to the Rivers State Government for its cooperation so far, emphasizing that the Port Harcourt Water Supply and Sanitation Project is designed to align with international best practices. According to the AfDB officials, the supervision mission will enable partners to assess progress, identify challenges, and ensure that timelines and quality standards are maintained.

Officials of the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation reaffirmed the Federal Government’s backing for the project, stressing its importance in meeting national development goals in water and sanitation.

The project, when completed, is expected to expand access to safe drinking water, reduce waterborne diseases, and improve the overall quality of life for Port Harcourt residents.
