EMR Celebrates World Maritime Day in Ph

The Energy and Maritime Reporters of Nigeria (EMR) has called on the Federal, State and local Governments in the Niger Delta to enforce more laws aimed at curbing disposal of disposable plastic materials used regularly to curb plastic Emission.

This came In line with United Nations mandate to member Countries to end plastic pollution in the next 10 years.

As members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm, the Energy and Maritime Reporters of Nigeria, EMR pledged to continue their Campaign for environmental Justice leading Ocean Science , as the ocean is seen to be sick and unhealthy.

On efforts by different Economies to map out every segment of the Ocean to understand challenges facing the Sea, EMR is prepared to intensify it’s campaign aimed aimed to reduce the problems of Mangrove desertification, Climate change and Water pollution while calling on Authorities of higher institutions in the country to join with the relevant Authorities in setting the Agenda for the realization of the Sustainable development goals SDG.

In Rivers and Core Niger Delta States, the body urged the States and Local Government Authorities to embark on the Construction of canals and cleaning of gutters and drainages, especially the Nta Worgba creek in Port Harcourt, and similar major drains to ease the free flow of water during the rains to minimize flash floods already been observed in parts of the the State.

It said that more environmental Justice Campaign is essential in achieving set objectives, thereby urging all stakeholders, Mariners and ship owners to join in the Campaign to create necessary awareness during Special Observance days like World Ocean Mangrove and on World Maritime Day Celebration as these will help to set objectives for the Sustainable development goals Agenda.

The Theme for the 2025 World Maritime Day is, “Our Ocean , Our Obligation, Our Opportunity”
