The Foundation for Patriotic Citizens and Sustainable Development (FPCSD) has called for an end to the protracted conflict between Renaissance African Energy Company (formerly Shell) and the Rumuekpe community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The group warned that the lingering dispute has fueled instability, stalled local development, and disrupted oil operations—posing serious consequences for the national economy.
In a statement, FPCSD urged Renaissance Energy to embrace constructive dialogue and genuine engagement with Rumuekpe residents in order to rebuild trust and create an enabling environment for both community growth and uninterrupted operations.

Executive Director of FPCSD, Pat Obiene, explained that years of unresolved grievances had deepened economic deprivation in the area, leaving the host community underdeveloped despite its resource wealth. According to him, confrontation has only worsened mistrust, while dialogue offers the chance for progress.
Obiene further revealed that the foundation has secured a mandate from Rumuekpe leaders to act as an impartial facilitator, bringing both sides to the table to seek sustainable solutions.
He stressed that genuine conversations would not only restore peace but also demonstrate the company’s commitment to responsible corporate citizenship.
“This process can transform Rumuekpe into a model of peace and sustainable growth for other oil-producing communities in Nigeria,” the group added.
