Tolu Scores His First Goal For Wolves

Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare opened his account for Wolverhampton Wanderers, sealing a 2-0 win over Everton that sent the Premier League side into the fourth round of the EFL Cup.

Marshall Munetsi broke the deadlock in the 29th minute after pouncing on a rebound from Mark Travers’ save, before Arokodare confirmed victory with a composed finish three minutes from time—his first goal since joining Wolves in a £23m summer move from Genk.

The win provided some respite for Wolves, who had already beaten West Ham in the previous round but remain rock bottom of the Premier League after losing all five of their opening fixtures, including a 3-2 home defeat to Everton earlier this month.

Everton had their moments, with Michael Keane forcing a fine stop from Sam Johnstone and James Garner rattling the crossbar from a free-kick, while substitute Jack Grealish nearly set up Jake O’Brien for a leveler. But Arokodare’s late strike killed off any hope of a comeback.

Head coach Vitor Pereira was full of praise for the Nigerian forward afterward, insisting the goal would lift his confidence.

“Tolu has settled in really well since arriving, and tonight’s goal will give him confidence,” Pereira told the club’s official website. “It’s always important for a striker to get off the mark early.”
