The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the federal government to take a firm position against Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC). This call follows Sowore’s recent harsh comments targeting President Bola Tinubu and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike.
In a statement released on September 24, 2025, from Port Harcourt, APC State Chairman Tony Okocha condemned Sowore’s statements as unacceptable attempts to spread misinformation and damage reputations. He described such actions as efforts to erode public trust and pose risks to Nigeria’s democracy.
Okocha highlighted Sowore’s recent claims, where he labeled President Tinubu a “criminal” and accused Wike of using public money to purchase luxury homes in Florida, United States. The APC leader stressed that while criticism is part of democracy, baseless accusations disguised as activism must be rejected.
He pointed to Sowore’s history, including his role as publisher of Sahara Reporters, which Okocha accused of relying on fabricated reports for blackmail. Okocha noted ongoing legal issues, such as charges by the Nigerian Police for forgery and false publications, and multiple Department of State Services (DSS) cases for cybercrimes and defamation against Tinubu.

The chairman recalled the 2019 #RevolutionNow protests, led by Sowore, as calls for violent unrest rather than genuine reform. “No true patriot seeks to overthrow an elected government through rage,” Okocha stated.
Okocha dismissed Sowore’s latest claims as desperate moves from a politically sidelined figure. He called on Nigerians to demand evidence over rumors and to focus on verifiable facts.
In defense of the leaders, Okocha praised Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for economic gains, including record monthly revenue sharing exceeding one trillion naira among government tiers and a stabilized naira. He also cited progress on major projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, now advancing rapidly.
The APC emphasized that Nigerians should celebrate these accomplishments instead of entertaining divisive tactics.
