Super Falcons coach Madugu finds himself in uncertainty as the WAFCON qualifiers approach. With less than a month remaining until their first qualifying match for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has not yet provided a new contract to Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu, despite his impressive track record.
Madugu was first appointed temporarily in September 2024 to take over from Randy Waldrum after his exit. Nevertheless, he quickly demonstrated his capabilities by guiding the team to an extraordinary 10th WAFCON title in Morocco.
His achievements were further acknowledged internationally with a historic nomination for the 2025 Ballon d’Or Women’s Team Coach of the Year award.

The Super Falcons, who are the reigning champions, are set to kick off their WAFCON 2026 qualification journey in October with a two-legged match against the Benin Republic. The first leg will take place in Benin, while the return leg will be held in Nigeria.
A reliable source within the NFF, who requested to remain anonymous, confirmed the delicate situation to UK-based sports journalist Osasu Obayiuwana.

The NFF has not commented on the issue, failing to release any official statement regarding Madugu’s contract.
