Relationships Are Financial Mistakes, Shallipopi Warns Men

Shallipopi

Popular Nigerian musician Shallipopi has stirred online debate after advising men to avoid romantic relationships, describing them as a “financial trap” and labelling marriage a “financial mistake”, especially for those from modest backgrounds.

The Elon Musk crooner urged men to live within their means and consider celibacy as a more financially responsible alternative.

“The biggest financial mistake, when you and your papa nor dey the Top 10 list of richest people in Africa, you go cry bro. OS na financial mistake, Girlfriend na financial mistake, stay celibate,” he wrote.

Shallipopi’s remarks have sparked mixed reactions across social media. While some fans praised his blunt honesty and financial realism, others criticised the statement as overly cynical and dismissive of emotional connection.

The artist, known for his bold persona and viral lyrics, has never shied away from controversial takes. His latest comments appear to reflect a growing sentiment among young Nigerians grappling with economic pressure and shifting cultural expectations around relationships.

By urging men to prioritise financial stability over romantic commitments, Shallipopi joins a chorus of public figures challenging traditional norms around love, marriage, and masculinity.

Whether seen as practical advice or provocative commentary, his message has certainly reignited conversations about the cost of companionship in today’s economy and the personal choices that come with it.
