Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, said the commission is intentional about Women’s Capacity building.

Dr Ogbuku made this known at the Flag-off Ceremony of NDDC Training for Niger Delta Women Entrepreneurs, in conjunction with Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria, SWAN, on Monday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Represented by Executive Director Projects, Dr Victor Antai, the MD told the participants that the commission earmarked thirty billion naira to set up the Niger Delta Chamber of Commerce, to grow Entrepreneurs in the oil-rich region.

“That is also confirming that mantra that by the time you train a woman, you are also training the entire family, so it is my pleasure to welcome everyone one of us here to this training, and am sure by the time you complete this program you must have learnt one or two that will help you in doing well in your chosen profession.” Dr Antai said.

Giving a lecture on Book-Keeping, the thirty-ninth Chairperson of SWAN, Port Harcourt Chapter, Mrs Helen Irobisi, identified bookkeeping as the key to business growth.

“The NDDC runs initiatives like the youth internship scheme to build skills and provide experience in various sectors, fostering an entrepreneurial self and offering opportunities to become business owners.” She said.

Mrs Irobisi enjoined participants to put themselves on a salary and separate business transactions from personal ones, as a financial discipline.
