The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Rivers State Council has congratulated Governor Siminalaiyi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, on their assumption of office following six months of emergency rule in the state.

In a statement, the NUJ welcomed the new administration and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, calling for harmonious working relationships to drive development in the state.

The union commended the people of Rivers State for their peaceful disposition during the period of emergency rule and urged the governor to prioritize real governance, treating all citizens equally regardless of political or religious affiliations.

The NUJ noted Governor Fubara’s emphasis on peace in his inaugural broadcast and expressed hope that this new chapter would bring renewed stability and progress to the state.

The union also drew the governor’s attention to the neglect suffered by state-owned media outlets, urging him to revitalize these institutions. Furthermore, the NUJ appealed to Governor Fubara to extend his support to members of the press and re-establish a working relationship with the union.

“We are ready to partner with the state government to contribute to the socio-economic growth of Rivers State through development journalism, constructive engagement, and sound advice,” the statement read.

The NUJ concluded by praying for peace, progress, and development in Rivers State and wished Governor Fubara and his deputy wisdom and guidance in their leadership.
