China-Nigeria Trade Surges to $15.48 Billion in Seven Months

Bilateral trade between China and Nigeria has experienced robust growth, reaching $15.483 billion from January to July 2025, according to Yan Yuqing, China’s Consul-General in Lagos which she disclosed during a reception on Sunday where both nations jointly marked Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary and China’s 76th National Day.

It bears mentioning that this figure reflects a 34.7% increase compared to the same period in 2024, underscoring the strengthening economic ties that benefit businesses across Nigeria, including those in vibrant regions like Rivers State where local enterprises engage in diverse export activities.

Yan Yuqing shared these insights during her September 21st address, emphasizing how the partnership positions Nigeria as China’s second-largest trading partner on the African continent.

She highlighted China’s economic resilience amid global uncertainties, noting a 5.3% GDP growth in the first half of 2025. This performance has bolstered innovation leadership worldwide, creating opportunities for collaborative projects that enhance productivity and market access for Nigerian firms.

The trade expansion spans various sectors, with Nigeria exporting key resources while importing advanced machinery and consumer goods from China. Such exchanges have spurred job creation and infrastructure development, indirectly supporting community initiatives in areas like Rivers State, where improved supply chains aid small-scale traders and distributors. The consul-general praised the mutual trust built over decades, crediting it for the steady rise in volumes.

Looking ahead, Yan expressed optimism for continued momentum, urging deeper cooperation to navigate international challenges. With Nigeria’s strategic role in global forums like BRICS, experts anticipate even higher figures by year-end, potentially exceeding $25 billion. This trajectory promises stabilized prices and diversified revenue streams, fostering inclusive growth nationwide.
