The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed the safe return of 148 Nigerian migrants from Sudan as part of the Federal Government’s ongoing evacuation exercise.
In a statement issued on Saturday, NEMA’s Kano Operations Office disclosed that the returnees landed at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport on Friday at about 2:30 p.m. aboard a chartered Tarco Aviation flight.
According to the agency, the group comprised 25 men, 27 women, 39 male children, and 57 female children. They were immediately transported to the Chila Hotel in Kano, where relevant authorities carried out profiling and documentation.
NEMA explained that the returnees were not enrolled in any reintegration programme but were each provided with transport assistance through ATM cards for onward travel after the documentation process. The agency described the reception exercise as “well-coordinated and successfully executed.”

“The returnees were discharged and given transport fare shortly after completion of documentation and profiling,” the statement read.
NEMA further highlighted that it has been working closely with international partners to support Nigerian migrants in distress abroad. It also commended the efforts of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), which has played a key role in rescuing Nigerian women and girls trapped in trafficking camps, particularly in Libya.
The agency assured that despite resource limitations, it would continue to prioritize the safety and welfare of Nigerians stranded overseas and facilitate their return in collaboration with other stakeholders.
Friday’s evacuation adds to the number of Nigerians who have been successfully repatriated from conflict-affected Sudan since hostilities erupted in that country earlier this year.
