INEC Warns Nigerians Against Fake Recruitment Advert Circulating Online

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cautioned Nigerians to ignore a fake recruitment advert currently making the rounds on social media, describing it as the handiwork of fraudsters.

‎In a statement posted on its official X handle, @inecnigeria, the electoral body said it has been alerted to a false notice claiming that INEC is carrying out a nationwide recruitment exercise.

‎According to the Commission, the fraudulent announcement directs unsuspecting applicants to a website — inecrecruitment.com — where they are asked to submit personal details and applications for supposed vacant positions. INEC, however, made it clear that it neither owns nor operates such a portal.

‎“Our attention has been drawn to a fake advertorial currently circulating on social media, giving the impression that the Independent National Electoral Commission is recruiting for various positions,” the statement read.

“The impostor behind this illicit recruitment exercise also asked would-be respondents to log on to an equally fake portal — inecrecruitment.com — to complete their applications. But INEC does not have any such portal.”

‎The Commission stressed that it is not conducting any recruitment exercise at this time and warned the public not to fall victim to the activities of criminal elements preying on job seekers.

‎INEC further advised Nigerians to rely only on its official website and verified social media accounts for authentic information, noting that any genuine recruitment announcement would be issued directly through those platforms.

‎The Commission also reiterated its commitment to transparency in its operations and urged members of the public to disregard fraudulent claims in order to avoid financial or identity-related losses.
