Breaking: President Tinubu Calls Off Emergency Rule Despite Opposition

President Bola Tinubu has declared an end to the Emergency Rule in Rivers State by midnight Tuesday 17 September 2025.

President Tinubu in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga thanked the National Assembly for critically evaluating the justification for the proclamation and taking immediate steps, as required by the Constitution, to approve the declaration in the interest of peace and order in Rivers State.

According to the statement, President Tinubu noted that recent intelligence reports from the state showed that there is an understanding and potent enthusiasm on the part of all the stakeholders in Rivers State for an immediate return to democratic governance.

The statement noted that despite a few voices of dissent against the proclamation, which led to the institution of over 40 cases in courts in Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Yenagoa, to invalidate the declaration of the State of Emergency.

President Tinubu declared that Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Professor Ngozi Odu, the speaker Mr. Martins Amaewhule and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly will resume work in their offices from 18 September 2025.

President Tinubu thanked traditional rulers and the people of Rivers State for their support to the Sole Administrator from the date of the declaration of the state of emergency till the moment of its lifting.
