PDP Pushes for Law to Guarantee E-Transmission of Results

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the Federal Government to provide a clear legal framework to support the electronic transmission of election results, describing it as crucial to ensuring credible polls in 2027.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, stressed that transmitting results directly from polling units was the only way to guarantee transparency and restore public trust in the electoral process.

He further called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to address persistent glitches associated with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS). According to him, if point-of-sale (POS) terminals function effectively across the country, there should be no justification for the failure of BVAS during elections.

“The electronic transmission of results remains the most effective safeguard against manipulation. Nigerians deserve an electoral system they can trust, and technology must be deployed effectively to achieve this,” Ologunagba said.

The PDP spokesperson also disclosed that the party’s elective national convention will be held in November in Ibadan. He expressed confidence that the gathering would strengthen unity within the PDP as it prepares to challenge for power in the 2027 general election.

Ologunagba additionally urged President Bola Tinubu to appoint a truly independent and credible chairman for INEC, one capable of guaranteeing free, fair, and transparent elections.

He noted that strengthening the electoral framework and ensuring neutrality in the management of elections would be decisive in shaping the credibility of future polls, particularly the 2027 general election.

According to the PDP, the adoption of electronic transmission of results, coupled with an impartial INEC leadership, would go a long way in reinforcing Nigeria’s democracy and giving citizens renewed confidence in the system.
