Nigerian actress and filmmaker Dayo Amusa has taken the extraordinary step of publicly sharing her private medical records. The move comes to directly counter false allegations concerning her HIV status that were propagated by a digital content creator.
The controversy ignited when an individual named Olaoluwa Segun published a video falsely listing Amusa as one of five Nigerian actors allegedly living with HIV.
Dayo Amusa swiftly denounced the claim on her social media platforms, labelling it as both entirely false and malicious in intent.
In her response, the actress provided crucial context, recalling that she had voluntarily shared her HIV-negative status once before in 2019. She clarified that her previous disclosure was not an admission of a positive status, but rather a public awareness initiative intended to destigmatise testing and encourage her followers to take charge of their health.

Faced with the relentless spread of the unverified information, Amusa escalated her response. On Tuesday, September 16, she presented tangible proof to silence the allegations once and for all: a photograph of her recent negative HIV screening results, posted directly to her Instagram page for all her followers and critics to see.
Alongside the results, the actress reiterated her core message of health consciousness and responsibility. She emphasised the importance of regular testing, not as a one-time event, but as a vital component of a proactive healthcare routine.
“I still feel the need to encourage individuals to get tested and know their HIV status,” she wrote in her post’s caption. “It is better to know your status so that you can guide yourself and save others, too.”
Beyond raising awareness, Amusa has also taken a legal stance against the originator of the rumour. She has explicitly threatened to pursue legal action against Olaoluwa Segun for the widespread dissemination of defamatory and unverified information, signalling a firm stand against the irresponsible spread of misinformation.
