AGN Urges Responsible Use of AI in Movie Production

Movie makers have been advised to balance human creativity with Artificial Intelligence (AI) in content production.

The Chairman, Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Port Harcourt branch, Dr. Ken Osunwa who gave the admonition in an interview with our correspondent urged content creators in the Nollywood to invest in training to acquire and apply AI skills effectively.

Dr. Osunwa underscored the importance of AI in film making to include improvement of efficiency, reduction of production time, and cost effectiveness.

“Some of the potential applications include script writing assistance. AI can help generate ideas and align the entire script. It can help in video editing and can streamline the post-production processes in filmmaking. Al can create realistic visual effects. Then you can talk about content recommendation, AI can suggest content to the audience based on their preferences”, he emphasised.

Dr. Osunwa however, highlighted job loss as one of the pitfalls associated with the use of AI in the movie production.

“Lack of human touch, over-reliance on AI-enabled can lead to a loss of human creativity and emotional depth in storytelling. Of course, AI algorithms can perpetuate existing bias in storytelling. AI generates all kinds of content without minding copyright infringement,” he stressed.

The Chairman Actors Guild of Nigeria in Port Harcourt enjoined stakeholders in Nollywood to create clear guideline in the application of Artificial Intelligence to forestall its negative effect.
