‎‎Kenyan Representative Pinpoint Nathaniel For Tokyo 2025 Podium

Nigeria’s Ezekiel Nathaniel received support to secure a medal in the men’s 400m hurdles at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, following a Kenyan official’s endorsement upon his arrival in Japan.

‎In a conversation with Making of Champs at Narita International Airport, the Kenyan representative expressed that while his primary allegiance lies with his own team, he also hopes for success for the Nigerian hurdler.

‎“While I am wishing my team all the best and all the medals, I also wish Nigerian Nathaniel success in the 400m hurdles, aiming for at least a medal, whether it be gold, silver, or bronze, for the diligent Nigerians,” he stated.

‎When questioned about his choice of Nathaniel, the official clarified that his opinion was influenced by the 22-year-old’s consistent performance.

‎“I have observed him compete. I have seen him participate in several races, and he has proven to be one of the best over the past few years,” he remarked.

‎Nathaniel arrived in Tokyo as one of Africa’s prominent medal contenders. He set a new Nigerian record this summer at the Silesia Diamond League with a time of 47.31 seconds, finishing between world record-holder Karsten Warholm and Qatar’s Abderrahman Samba. This performance places him as the fifth fastest in the world this year.

‎The recent Baylor University graduate has also remained undefeated on the American collegiate circuit, achieving the third-fastest time in NCAA history. In August, he informed the Diamond League media that he is optimistic about reaching a higher level of performance at the Championships.

‎“I feel like I am currently running fast, but I still have more to give, and I am prepared to do even more,” he expressed.

‎Nathaniel has already competed against the world’s elite, challenging himself against Alison dos Santos and Rai Benjamin in Eugene before facing Warholm in Silesia.

‎He believes that these experiences have enhanced his skills. “Competing with these athletes feels different; racing against the professionals in the field is a rewarding experience,” he noted.
