Ahead of the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualification match against Sporting CP scheduled for Thursday (today), Super Falcons forward Rinsola Babajide has expressed that her desire to win trophies motivated her summer transfer to AS Roma Femminile in Italy.
The 27-year-old Nigerian international, who signed a two-year contract with the Rome-based club after leaving Spanish Liga F team UD Gijón Tenerife in July, is set to participate in her team’s third qualification round first-leg match against the Portuguese side at home, as they aim to progress to the group stage of the annual competition.
The WAFCON 2024 champion shared with South African media outlet SABC Sport, stating, “I joined Roma to win silverware as well. I achieved my first one, and it was an incredible feeling; I truly desire more.

I have learned about Roma’s history, particularly the women’s team, which has won trophies in the past, whether in league or cup competitions. I am genuinely focused on acquiring more silverware, and I also aspire to play in the Champions League.”
The former Watford and Liverpool player is confident that she can accomplish much more in her career while in the Italian capital, saying, “At Tenerife, I scored 10 goals for the first time, so I am personally aiming to either maintain that or improve my goal statistics.
Additionally, I want to be a starter and perform at my best for both myself and my team,” Babajide concluded.
Babajide, who netted her first international goal and played a crucial role for the Super Falcons in securing a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco this summer, is expected to make significant contributions for Roma in their quest to advance to the next round of the Champions League.
