NSC Backs Team Nigeria Ahead Of World Athletics Championship

With the World Athletics Championships fast approaching, the National Sports Commission (NSC) has thrown its weight fully behind Team Nigeria as the athletes gear up for competition in Tokyo from September 13 to 21, 2025.

A statement released by Kola Daniel, spokesperson to NSC Director-General Bukola Olopade, expressed confidence in the team’s ability to deliver. Olopade, who will be in Tokyo to provide direct support, encouraged the athletes to compete with courage and bring honour to the nation.

“This is more than just participation—it is a moment of pride. We trust our athletes to rise to the challenge and secure podium finishes. The commission, along with millions of Nigerians, stands firmly behind them,” he noted.

NSC chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, has also stressed the importance of Nigeria establishing its dominance in athletics, insisting that “this is the time to get it right.”

The 15-athlete squad is led by two global stars—world 100m hurdles record holder Tobi Amusan and long jump medalist Ese Brume. They are joined by a strong mix of sprinters, jumpers, and throwers, all determined to make an impact.
