The NNPC Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of NNPC Ltd., has launched the second phase of its Vulnerable Farmers Training Programme, extending the initiative to Northern Nigeria to bolster the nation’s food security and economic empowerment.
NNPC disclosed this in a statement signed by Andy Odeh, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd on Thursday
The second phase followed a successful first phase that saw over 4,000 farmers trained in the Southern regions; this new phase will focus on the North East, North West, and North Central geopolitical zones.
Training sessions are planned for six states across these zones, along with a session in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The program is designed to equip smallholder farmers with modern agricultural techniques, including climate-smart farming, organic fertilisation, and methods to reduce post-harvest losses.
It also provides strategies for improving market access, aiming to help farmers transition from subsistence-level production to sustainable, commercial-scale agriculture.
According to Emmanuella Arukwe, Managing Director of the NNPC Foundation, the programme aligns with the Federal Government’s agricultural transformation agenda.

“Agriculture is the primary source of livelihood for over 70% of Nigeria’s population. This training is designed to change the narrative for many farmers who are currently limited by a lack of access to modern techniques,” she stated during the first phase’s flag-off in Enugu State.
The expansion of the programme underscores NNPC Foundation’s commitment to improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and contributing to national development.
The initiative seeks to empower participants with the necessary tools and knowledge to increase productivity and improve their economic standing.
The programme is a significant step in the NNPC Foundation’s ongoing efforts to support sustainable development across Nigeria.
