Davido Gifts Viral Beggar Luxury Apartment

Nigerian music superstar Davido has once again shown his heart for giving, this time teaming up with entertainment executive Soso and real estate mogul Abu Abel to change the life of a Lagos beggar who recently went viral online.

The beneficiary, popularly referred to as the “richest beggar in Africa,” gained attention after his presence on the streets of Lagos sparked both sympathy and curiosity on social media.

In a viral video, he showcased his brand-new luxury apartment in Chevron, Lekki, crowdfunded by Davido and his circle. Clearly overwhelmed, he expressed gratitude for the support, describing it as a life-changing gift.

The man’s story has stirred comparisons to Nigeria’s culture of street begging, where some individuals, like the late “Sarkin Maroka” of Ajegunle, famously turned alms into multiple houses, businesses, and even transport companies. While it remains to be seen how this new beneficiary will manage his good fortune, his situation shows how social media can attract life-changing interventions.

Many Nigerians applauded Davido and his friends for their generosity, praising them for uplifting someone from the streets in such a dramatic fashion.

Others, however, raised concerns about sustainability. With the apartment located in an upscale area like Chevron, questions have emerged about who will foot future rent payments and whether the gift provides long-term security or just temporary relief.

This isn’t the first time Davido has made headlines for philanthropy. In 2021, the singer donated ₦250 million to orphanages across Nigeria after receiving massive birthday gifts from fans and friends.
