According to a recent report, it has been stated that Gernot Rohr, the former Super Eagles coach who is now the head coach of the Benin Republic national football team, has raised concerns with FIFA and CAF regarding the delay in implementing a possible three-point deduction for South Africa, which could impact the standings in Group C.
The report indicates that Rohr, who previously served as a technical adviser for the Super Eagles, is urging swift action against South Africa for having fielded an ineligible player, Teboho Mokoena, during their 2-0 victory in a World Cup qualifier against Lesotho in March.
FIFA and CAF have not yet provided an official decision, leaving other teams in Group C, such as Nigeria, Benin Republic, and Rwanda, in uncertainty about their chances for World Cup qualification.
After Benin’s recent 1-0 win over Zimbabwe, Rohr was quoted as saying, “South Africa won against Lesotho? That’s fine, but the crucial match is the first leg, where they should forfeit the three points.
”It is very clear. The regulations are extremely clear. We are puzzled as to why FIFA and CAF have not yet acted to revoke their points.
”This situation is not normal. We are unsure of our position. We have accumulated 11 points following today’s match.
”South Africa must forfeit three points, and then we would only trail our opponent by two points. What are they waiting for? I cannot comprehend it.”
