Rivers United Deserved Result – Finidi

Finidi George

Rivers United technical adviser, Finidi George, has expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance after they battled to a goalless draw against El-Kanemi Warriors in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) matchday three clash on Sunday, September 7.

The encounter, played at the El-Kanemi Stadium in Maiduguri, saw both sides cancel each other out in a game that produced few clear-cut chances. Despite failing to secure maximum points, the Pride of Rivers maintained their unbeaten start to the 2024/2025 NPFL campaign. From three matches, the Port Harcourt-based outfit has recorded one victory and two draws, underlining a solid opening to the season.

Speaking after the contest, Finidi noted that his players gave a good account of themselves and were deserving of the single point earned on the road. He explained that while the first half of the match was evenly contested, the second half demanded greater defensive discipline from his team.

“Overall, I think we’re quite happy with the result,” he remarked. “The first half was 50-50, but in the second half—especially in the last 25 minutes—they really pushed us back. We had to focus on defending well and then tried to capitalise on counterattacks whenever possible.”

The result leaves Rivers United in eighth position on the NPFL log with five points after three outings. With the season still at an early stage, Finidi and his squad will now shift their attention to upcoming fixtures, aiming to build on their steady start and continue climbing up the table.
