‎Falcon Goalkeeper Named MVP, After Clean Sheet on WSL Debut

Nnadozie

Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie started her journey with her new club Brighton and Hove Albion in spectacular style, achieving a clean sheet and earning the player of the match award after her team’s goalless draw against Aston Villa in their 2025/26 Women’s Super League opener on Sunday, September 7, as reported.

‎The 24-year-old, who transferred to Brighton during the summer window after leaving French club Paris FC, made her debut in goal for coach Dario Vidosic’s team as the new WSL season commenced.

‎Nnadozie had a hectic afternoon but excelled in the home match, making four crucial saves to thwart the Villans and ensuring her goal remained intact as Brighton secured a point.

‎She also recorded 46 touches throughout the full 90 minutes of the match, which earned her the Player of the Match title in her very first official appearance in the English women’s top division.

‎Overall, the match between the two teams was closely fought, with both sides generating few clear scoring chances.

‎Coach Vidosic shared his reflections after the scoreless draw, stating, “We anticipated there would likely be a moment for Villa during transitions. I believe we managed it very well. We are aware of their threat.

‎They have two of the quickest players positioned up front, ready to exploit any gaps. However, I felt we handled their transitions effectively. I was pleased with our performance in the second half. Both teams seemed to be finding their rhythm in the first half, trying to settle the game. Once we did, we looked quite strong in certain phases of the second half.”

‎As Brighton aims to build on the draw from the opening day, the reigning CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year is expected to play a significant role as the Seagulls pursue their goals for the new season.
