If Nigeria Failed to Qualify, NFF Chiefs Must Resign -Oliseh

Former Captain of the Super Eagles, Sunday Oliseh, has asserted that the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) should not remain in their positions for even a day longer if the Super Eagles fail to qualify for consecutive FIFA World Cups.

‎The Super Eagles of Nigeria currently occupy the fourth position in the standings as they approach the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

‎South Africa is at the top of Group C with 13 points, followed by Rwanda and Benin Republic, each with eight points, while Nigeria has seven points. Lesotho is in sixth place with six points, and Zimbabwe is at the bottom of the table with four points.

‎Oliseh, who is a member of the FIFA Technical Study Group, informed reporters yesterday, September 5th, that for Nigeria to miss two consecutive World Cups would represent a significant setback for the nation’s football.

‎After failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the Super Eagles find themselves once again in serious jeopardy of not qualifying for the upcoming World Cup next year.

‎“Failing to qualify for another World Cup will devastate our football, and thus we must take decisive action,” stated the former international Oliseh.

‎“That would mean not qualifying for two successive World Cups, which we do not deserve. The NFF must accept full accountability and resign as a consequence.”

‎Nigeria is currently in fourth place in the qualifying group, having accumulated seven points from six matches.

‎South Africa leads the group with 13 points, while Rwanda is in second place with eight points, ahead of third-placed Benin, who also has eight points but a poorer goal difference.

‎Lesotho is fifth with six points, and Zimbabwe is last, having secured four points.
