Why I Supported Tinubu in 2023 – Morayo Afolabi-Brown

Morayo Afolabi-Brown

Popular broadcaster and former Your View host, Morayo Afolabi-Brown, has opened up about a turbulent chapter in her career at TVC, revealing how internal office politics once cost her job—until President Bola Ahmed Tinubu intervened.

Speaking during an interview on the With Chude podcast, Afolabi-Brown shared that just three years into her role at TVC, she was abruptly fired due to political intrigues within the organisation. At the time, Tinubu, who owns the station, was unaware she worked there.

Her dismissal, however, sparked conversations that reached him after concerned associates highlighted her identity as the daughter of the late legal luminary, Alao Aka-Basorun. According to Morayo, Tinubu invited her to his office to hear her side of the story. Following the meeting, she was reinstated—though with a demotion.

“I was called to explain what had happened. After a lot of back and forth, I got my job back,” she recalled.

Reflecting on her open support for Tinubu during the 2023 presidential elections, the media personality explained that her choice was deliberate. She disclosed that she was formally invited by the women’s arm of his campaign and decided to stand by his candidacy.

Comparing her endorsement to Oprah Winfrey’s famous backing of Barack Obama, Morayo said: “I had two choices: say no or support him. I chose to support him because I believed in his candidacy.”
