FRSC NVIS Portal Aids Recovery of Stolen Vehicle in Rivers State

All vehicle owners have been urged to ensure their vehicles are properly registered and documented within the NVIS database.

Commenting on the successful recovery of a grey Toyota Camry, the Rivers State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Inyang Umoh, on Friday, September 5, emphasized that this not only helps in verifying ownership but also plays a critical role in tracking and recovering stolen vehicles.

Sector Commander reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to collaborating with other security agencies in curbing vehicle theft and enhancing public safety across the state.

On August 28, 2025, at approximately 11:05 a.m., a man identified as Mr. Edmund M. Banigo approached the FRSC office in Rivers State seeking verification and upload of vehicle documents for a grey Toyota Camry into the NVIS platform. However, discrepancies quickly emerged during the verification process.

Further checks by FRSC personnel revealed that the same vehicle had previously been registered under a different name and license plate, raising suspicion about its true ownership.

Upon contacting the registered owner listed in the NVIS system, Mr. Obinna Ozokenna, it was confirmed that the car had been stolen earlier in the year. According to Ozokenna, the vehicle was taken from where it was parked along PW Road in Kubwa, Abuja, on March 22, 2025. He had reported the theft to both the Phase 4 Police Station and the SARS office in Abuja, but recovery efforts had been unsuccessful until now.

Following the confirmation of the vehicle’s stolen status, the suspect was promptly detained and handed over to officers of the Nigeria Police Force in Rivers State, led by DSP Ibrahim Elem. The vehicle was officially recovered on September 3, 2025.

The National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) managed by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has once again proven effective in aiding the recovery of stolen vehicles, as demonstrated by a recent incident handled by the Rivers State Sector Command.
