FG Declares September 5 Public Holiday for Eid-ul-Mawlid Celebration

The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate Eid-ul-Mawlid, which marks the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

This announcement was made in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 3, by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani. The declaration was made on behalf of the Federal Government by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended warm felicitations to the Muslim faithful across Nigeria and beyond on the occasion of the celebration. He urged the Muslim Ummah to reflect on and uphold the Prophet’s exemplary values of peace, humility, compassion, love, and tolerance, noting that these virtues are essential to fostering national unity and progress.

The Minister further called on Nigerians of all religious backgrounds to take the opportunity to pray for peace, stability, and the overall well-being of the nation. He emphasized the importance of collective efforts in achieving sustainable development and promoting national cohesion.
