Nigerian singer Obumneme Ali, popularly known as Smash and one half of the music duo Bracket, has weighed in on the long-running feud between Peter and Paul Okoye of P-Square, describing it as “spiritual.”
Smash made the revelation during a recent appearance on the AFRIMMA Podcast alongside his bandmate, Vast. According to him, even Paul Okoye admitted that there was more to the rift than meets the eye.
“I’m closer to Paul than Peter, but I often visit Peter’s house, and he listens to me whenever I talk to him,” Smash said. “If you ask me as an insider, I would say the problem is spiritual.”
He recalled a conversation with Paul where he openly told him that the issues with his twin brother were beyond the ordinary. “The last time I met Paul, I told him the problem with his brother wasn’t normal, that it was spiritual, and he agreed,” Smash revealed.

The Bracket singer expressed sadness over the brothers’ fallout, highlighting how close and passionate they were about their music brand in their early years. “If you knew how united these guys were and how they worked, you’d feel bad seeing what is happening today,” he said, adding that their elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, was also deeply invested in the group’s success.
P-Square, once Africa’s biggest pop duo, parted ways in 2017 after years of internal disputes, only to reunite briefly in 2021. Their relationship has remained under constant public scrutiny.
