Obio/Akpor Chairman-Elect Pledges People-Centric Governance

Following the victory of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the August 30th Rivers State Local Government Election in Obio/Akpor, the Chairman-Elect Dr. Gift Worlu, has reiterated his plan to implement people-oriented leadership.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after his official presentation of Certificate of Return by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) at its headquarters in Port Harcourt, Dr. Worlu said the Supreme Court judgment and the intervention of President Bola Tinubu paved the way for the recently concluded local government election.

“If not for the intervention of Mr. President, we can only imagine what could have happened when there were no funds in the State and Local Governments couldn’t access their resources. My message to our people is clear: we are going to unite, and together we will confront the enormous challenges ahead.”

Dr. Worlu who described his victory as a celebration of democracy, emphasized that there is no victor, no vanquished and called for active participation from the public.

“If you have ideas that can help us achieve more, please bring them forward. If you want to criticize us, do so constructively. Feedback from the people will help us improve for a better Obio/Akpor.”

While stressing the importance of constructive criticism, the Chairman Elect called for citizens’ feedback in driving good governance which he noted is the most important is the Local Government.

“A united people can achieve whatever they set their minds to. I urge our people to brace for serious leadership—a leadership that is purposeful, transparent, and people-centric. We are going to make sure we govern with a human face,” he assured.
