Ibas Swear In 23 Local Government Chairmen

Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, has urged newly elected chairmen of the twenty-three local government areas to embrace transparency, accountability and reform-driven leadership at their various councils.

Vice Admiral Ibas gave the charge during their swearing-in ceremony held at Government House, Port Harcourt.

With the local government elections conducted on Saturday and winners declared on Sunday following by issuance of certificates of returned, the oath of office was administered on the twenty-three elected chairmen at government House in Port Harcourt.

Vice Admiral Ibas told them that local government leadership must move beyond politics of patronage to measurable service delivery.

He warned them against using their positions for self-enrichment and urged then to support the ongoing biometric enrollment of all local government staff to gather critical database for human resource management and long-term planning.

The Administrator also commended the outgoing 23 transitional administrators for steering the councils during a volatile period, noting that their service prepared the ground for the democratic renewal now underway.
