Chelsea has finalized the permanent acquisition of Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho on August 30th. The Argentine international was in attendance at Stamford Bridge as the Blues secured a 2–0 victory over Fulham in a west London derby, with his signing officially announced just a few hours later.
Garnacho has committed to a seven-year deal with Chelsea, lasting until the summer of 2032. While the transfer fee remains undisclosed, earlier reports indicated a guaranteed amount of £40 million ($54 million) along with a 10% sell-on clause for any future transfer.
”This is an incredible moment for my family and me to join such a prestigious club,” the 21-year-old expressed to Chelsea’s in-house media. “I’m eager to get started. I watched the Club World Cup, and joining the world champions is truly special—we are the best team in the world! It’s fantastic to be here, and I’m very pleased.”
Garnacho made his way into Manchester United’s first team in 2022, following his pivotal role in the club’s FA Youth Cup triumph that year. He accumulated 144 appearances over just more than three seasons, with his last match being a substitute appearance in the Europa League final last May.

Frustrated remarks made after that game, where he lamented his position, seemed to indicate a rift with manager Ruben Amorim.
A statement from Manchester United concluded: “We would like to express our gratitude to Alejandro for his contributions and wish him the best of luck in the next phase of his career.”
Chelsea marked the signing by having Garnacho pose in his new blue kit, sitting on advertising hoardings, a sight that became a familiar goal celebration during his time at United.
