‎Nigerian Defender Osho Completes Move to Cardiff City

Gabriel Osho

Cardiff City has acquired defender Gabriel Osho from French Ligue 1 team AJ Auxerre for an undisclosed fee, signing him to a four-year contract.

‎The 27-year-old former Luton Town centre-back marks only the second signing of the summer for Cardiff, who lead League One.

‎Osho was part of the Luton squad that achieved promotion to the Premier League in the 2022-23 season, scoring twice in 21 appearances in the top flight before moving to France in July 2024.

‎While at Kenilworth Road, he also had a loan stint at Rochdale, where he collaborated with Brian Barry-Murphy, who he credits as a significant influence in his decision to join Cardiff in south Wales.

‎”It has taken a long time to come together, so being here at the stadium and in the city feels great. I’m excited to get started,” Osho expressed on the club’s website.

‎”Brian was instrumental in this move. Having a strong relationship with the manager is always crucial. I enjoyed my time at Rochdale, and the bond I formed with Brian and the staff there was truly remarkable.”

‎Last season, Osho made 20 appearances for Auxerre in France’s top division, netting one goal and receiving one red card.

‎He started both Ligue 1 matches this season for the French side against Lorient and Nice.

‎Osho began his career at his hometown club Reading, where he had multiple loan spells, including at Bristol Rovers and Yeovil Town. He also holds two international caps for Nigeria.

‎Since Barry-Murphy’s appointment in June, Cardiff’s only other signing has been Copenhagen goalkeeper Nathan Trott on loan.

‎The Bluebirds have also seen 11 senior players leave following their relegation from the Championship last season.
