Wolverhampton Wanderers Wants Nigerian Striker

Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers is reportedly closing in on the signing of Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare from Belgian club Genk.

According to Belgian outlet HLN on Thursday, August 28, Wolves are prepared to submit a €25 million offer for the 24-year-old superstar who is expected to leave the Jupiler Pro League before the end of the summer transfer window.

Arokodare, who netted 23 goals and seven assists in 45 appearances last season, finished as the Belgian league’s top scorer. His outstanding form has also drawn interest from Serie A giants AC Milan and Napoli, but Wolves are said to be leading the race as they look to replace forward Jørgen Strand-Larsen, who is close to joining Newcastle United.

The Nigerian striker was notably left out of Genk’s squad for Thursday’s UEFA Europa Conference League clash against Lech Poznań, a move seen as precautionary to avoid injury ahead of a possible transfer.

Genk sporting director Dimitri De Condé recently admitted that Arokodare’s departure looks inevitable.

“I estimate the chances of our top scorer leaving at 99 per cent. There is no official offer yet, but demand is high and he is ready for the next step,” he told Belgian media.

Genk finished third in the Belgian topflight last season, nine points shy of the title, despite Arokodare’s prolific campaign. Life in England looks highly rated on the cards of the Nigerian goal machine.
