NPFL Club Seeks For Financial Support

As reported on Thursday, August 28, Owerri-based Kun Khalifat FC has issued an urgent public appeal for financial and logistical support to enable the club to sustain its participation in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

In a statement signed by the club’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Michael Chukwudi Amaefule, Kun Khalifat FC — fondly called “The Pride of Imo State” — stressed that the appeal was not out of weakness or lack of commitment, but a necessity to keep the club competitive in Nigeria’s top flight.

Mr. Amaefule recalled the club’s impressive journey, rising from the Nationwide League One (NLO) to the Nigeria National League (NNL) through sheer determination and collective effort. However, he noted that the financial burden of playing in the NPFL is significantly higher, estimating the cost of a full season at nearly ₦1 billion.

“If, for any reason, we are unable to honour matches going forward, it will not be due to lack of desire or dedication, but because of circumstances beyond our control,” he stated.

The club appealed to its fans, supporters, the Imo State Government, corporate sponsors, and well-meaning Nigerians to rally behind the team to ensure it can continue to represent Imo State on the national stage.

Kun Khalifat FC emphasised that with adequate sponsorship and financial support, it can not only sustain its NPFL status but also achieve greater success while giving Imolites the pride of seeing their team compete among Nigeria’s football elite.
