Akor Adams Injured Ahead of 2026 World Cup Qualifiers

Super Eagles

Akor Adams’ dream of making his debut for the Super Eagles has come to an end after he suffered a muscle injury in his left thigh.

‎It was confirmed on Wednesday, August 27, that this injury will stop him from playing in Sevilla’s La Liga game against Girona this weekend, as well as Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers for the 2026 tournament.

‎The 25-year-old missed training on Wednesday, and Sevilla’s doctors confirmed he has a problem with the long adductor muscle in his thigh.

Due to this, Adams will not be attending the match at Estadi Montilivi on Saturday. He has also been left out of Eric Chelle’s temporary list of 31 players for the important qualifiers against Rwanda in Uyo and South Africa in Bloemfontein.

‎Sevilla shared the news in an official statement: “Sevilla FC held their first training session on Wednesday, August 27, to prepare for the game against Girona this weekend.

‎Neither Rubén Vargas nor Akor Adams joined the group. The Swiss player trained in the gym, while the Nigerian is dealing with an injury to the long adductor muscle in his left thigh and will miss the match against Girona.”

‎This injury is a big blow for Adams, who just got his first call-up to the senior Nigerian team. It also makes things harder for Sevilla, who have lost their first two games in La Liga this season.

‎Even though he hasn’t scored yet this season, Adams has shown some good potential, especially by setting up a goal in Sevilla’s 3-2 loss to Athletic Bilbao on opening day.

‎Now, his focus will be on getting better and helping both his club and country in the months ahead.
