President Tinubu Wants Super Eagles to Win World Cup – NSC‎

‎The Federal Government of Nigeria, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aims to see the male national football team – the Super Eagles – reach the finals of the 2026 World Cup.

‎In pursuit of this goal, the Federal Government, through the National Sports Commission (NSC), on Tuesday, August 26, initiated plans and programs designed to help achieve this significant objective for the President and the over 210 million citizens of Nigeria.

‎One of these initiatives involves the establishment of a STRATEGY GROUP for the Super Eagles and the Football Federation, tasked with complementing the NFF and providing essential support with the endorsement of the Presidency.

‎Reports indicate that the Presidency initially envisioned a structure similar to the Presidential Task Force (PTF) of 2010, which was a Task Force; however, the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, opted for a STRATEGY GROUP instead.

‎The Strategy Group’s responsibilities extend beyond merely overseeing the Super Eagles’ matches; they will also focus on games involving South Africa and other teams in Group C of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.

‎It has been reported that an advance team from the Strategy Group will travel to South Africa next week to rally support from Nigerians in the former apartheid region, ensuring the Super Eagles receive the necessary backing before, during, and after their crucial match against Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

‎Many football stakeholders who spoke to our correspondents expressed that no effort, resources, or funds spent on securing a World Cup ticket is excessive for the nation, urging the NSC and the Strategy Group to support the Super Eagles and the NFF.

‎Meanwhile, the Super Eagles’ camp for the decisive 2026 World Cup Qualifiers will commence on September 1st in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, located in the South-South region of Nigeria.

‎Currently, Nigeria holds the fourth position in Group C of the Africa 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, trailing behind South Africa, Rwanda, and the Benin Republic.
