As the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RISIEC gears up for Saturday’s August 30th Local government elections, the need to effectively utilize technology for election processes has been advocated.
Speaking to our correspondent in Port Harcourt, the former Director of Quality Assurance, Rivers State University Professor Eric Amadi said the resources should be directed to develop technologies that will make voting through phones a reality. Professor Amadi insisted that technology will ensure more persons can vote for their preferred candidates in various elections from the comfort of their environment.
“Our Individual cell phones can be our BVAS, this will prevent humongous amounts of money spent on glitchable machines and so we can vote from the comfort of our rooms.” “When that happens the gains will be enormous, it would eliminate ballot box snatching, reduce arms in the hands of youths and thugs, eliminate fight at polling stations, reduce vote buying, corrupt officials will have no need to be there.”

“It would strengthen and Deepen the transparency of our elections, it would show the reflection of the will of the people. “While highlighting the advantages of Artificial intelligence technology in education, politics, health and other facet of life the academic called on government to properly sensitize people on effective and responsible use of technology.
“Let us teach digital citizenship and cyber security from the ground up, the Faculty of Education has a crucial role in designing these learning models, we need to provide lecturers with the training they need to detect AI generated content. “Professor Amadi appealed to the relevant authorities to provide the necessary resources needed to bring about a healthy fusion of technology to the everyday activities of Nigerians.
