Recent data from Nigeria Bureau of Statistics (NBS), shows that South-South Zone has the highest retail price of Automotive Gas Oil which is also known as diesel at N1941.98 while the South West Zone has the lowest price of N1619.06 compared to other Zones.
Analysis by theportcitynews showed that the average retail price of Diesel paid by consumers increased by 29.72 percent on a year-on-year basis from a lower cost of N1379.48 per liter recorded in the corresponding month of july last year to a higher cost of N1789.45 per liter in July 2025.
On a month-on-month basis, a decrease of 1.34 percent was recorded from N1813.81 in June 2025 to an average of N1789.45 in July 2025.
Looking at the variations in State prices, the top three States with the highest average price of AGO products in July 2025 includes Benue State at N2341.46, Adamawa State at N2163.88 and Plateau State at N2029.71.
Furthermore, the top three lowest prices were recorded in the following State namely, Ondo State at N1465.71, Zamfara State at N1470.35 and Gombe State at N1485.00.

Meanwhile average retail price paid by consumers for Premium Motor Spirit, (Petrol) for July 2025 was N1024.99, indicating a 33.02 percent increase compared to the value recorded in July 2024 which was N770.54.
On State profile analysis, Jigawa State had the highest average retail price for Premium Motor Spirit at N1107.52. Lagos and Sokoto States followed with prices at N1100.29 and N1100.00, respectively.
Conversely, Zamfara, Yobe, and Kogi States had the lowest average retail prices for Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol), at N884.63, N950.60, and N986.67 respectively.
The North West Zone had the highest average retail price of N1035.85 while the North East Zone had the lowest price of N1017.65.
