In a firm and direct response to spreading gossip, prominent Nigerian comedian Ayo Makun, better known by his stage name AY, has moved to shut down persistent rumors alleging he seeks to reunite with his estranged partner.

The filmmaker utilized his Instagram account to address the speculation head-on, labeling the reports as deceptive and factually incorrect.

“My attention has been drawn to a series of false, incessant, and insensitive social media posts suggesting that I am in a state of regret and seeking reconciliation in my past relationship.

His statement included a forceful rebuke of the sources spreading the news, accusing them of manipulation for clout.

“These publications are deliberately manipulative, calculated to mislead the public, and designed solely for traffic and engagement. For clarity, I have never authorized or made any such statements.“

He explicitly clarified that he has not issued any statements on this subject nor given permission for a press release to be circulated. He further called upon his followers and the public to ignore the misinformation entirely.

He further wrote, “If I wish to communicate my personal position on any matter, I have the platform, the reach, and the credibility to do so directly- not through faceless blogs and rumor-driven platforms.”

Shifting from defense to offense, Makun concluded his announcement with a significant legal threat. He declared that any blog or individual continuing to promote the narrative would face legal consequences for defamation.

“All such false narratives should be disregarded by the public. Moving forward, the appropriate legal measures will be instituted against individuals, blogs, or platforms that continue to publish, promote, or circulate these defamatory stories.“

He concuded the statement with a stern warning, “This serves as a final warning, Enough of the lies.”
