Congo’s head coach, Barthelemy Ngatsono, has admitted that the home-based Super Eagles rightfully earned their victory over his team during Tuesday night’s Group D match at the 2024 African Nations Championship.
A recent report indicates that the East Africans suffered a 2-0 defeat against Eric Chelle’s squad in the match held at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The report states that Congo required a win to secure a spot in the quarter-finals, but failed to overcome Eric Chelle’s team.
The first half ended in a 0-0 stalemate, but Anas Yusuf and Sikiru Alimi scored for Nigeria in the second half.

Following this loss, Ngatsono’s team was eliminated from the CHAN 2024 finals. The coach acknowledged that the Home Eagles were too formidable for his squad.
”Nigeria was better prepared and in better physical condition than we were, which hindered our ability to maintain ball control. Nigeria was like a wounded lion.”
“Even with our thorough preparation leading up to the match, we did not perform as we had intended,” he was quoted as saying by CAFonline.
