Experts in the educational sector have advised caregivers to utilise the vacation period to acquaint their wards with vocational skills that will enhance their creative potential. This was made known in an interview with our correspondent.
An academic, Dr. Maurice Ogwu, described the vacation period as a time students rest from rigorous academic work for at least one month and urged the students to make judicious use of the holiday period to acquire knowledge in fields other than academics.
“It will be beneficial to visit one or two places of interest. They can travel around either within or outside the country, explore nature, environments, and other cultures if they have the resources. They should also, as a matter of fact, do well to read their books”, he said.
A student, Chinaza Anwuli, explained that the holiday period would be a time to travel to interesting places and be with relatives.
“Well, I want people to take me to places where I can see new things I have not seen before. I would like to have fun, play with toys and ride horses”, she noted
Another student, Keno Isaac, stressed that he would utilise the time to play and watch interesting movies.
“I would play, run up and down, and go to the cinema”, he stated.

Mrs Samuel Nwachukwu stated that her wards would be engaged in extramural activities for intellectual development.
“This is a long vacation instead of them playing around, I will engage them with lessons”, she emphasised.
Another parent, Mr. Ude Cyprian, believed that his children would use the free period to learn a vocation or the other rather than sitting idly at home.
“They would partially join us in our business, but my son would be sent to a workshop to learn a trade and my daughter, I will fix her in a place where she will be busy learning one thing or the other”, he concluded.
Anyway, the period is spent, students should maximise the time to their benefit.
