Rivers Police Arrest 23-Year Old Alleged Murder Suspect

The Rivers State Police Command has made a major breakthrough in its fight against violent crime with the arrest of a murder suspectzÀ linked to the brutal killing of 44-year-old Miss Confidence Konebari Sunny.

This was revealed on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, in a statement made available to TPCN, by the Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Irinke-Koko.

The Police narrated that Sunny was tragically attacked and killed with a machete on July 30, 2025, in the Umuebule Community of Etche Local Government Area.

The alleged perpetrator, identified as 23-year-old Kingsley Chinamezu, popularly known as Power Sharp, from Ogbo-Hill, Abia State, fled the scene immediately after allegedly committing the crime.

Following a formal complaint by the victim’s family and growing threats from the suspect directed at her relatives, the State Commissioner of Police assigned the case to the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU).

Utilizing advanced technical intelligence, the operatives launched a manhunt and successfully tracked the suspect to Egbeta village in Edo State.

Chinamezu was arrested on August 15, 2025, at his hideout. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the murder and provided a detailed account of the events leading up to the incident.

The police are currently gathering further evidence and conducting a background check to determine his involvement in any other crimes.

He will be formally charged and prosecuted once investigations are complete.

Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga A. Adepoju, praised the swift and professional work of the operatives involved in the arrest.

He reiterated that the State will not serve as a refuge for criminals and warned that those who engage in violent crimes will be swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.

The CP said, “The Rivers State Police Command remains fully committed to ensuring public safety and justice for all.

“Anyone who believes they can escape the consequences of their actions should think again the law will catch up with them.”
