The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas Ekwe (rtd.), has called on corps members of the 2025 Batch C Stream I of the National Youth Service Corps NYSC, deployed to the state to be a “source of joy” to their host communities.
He emphasized the welcoming nature of the people of Rivers State, describing them as “accommodating, hospitable, and charitable.”The sole administrator gave this charge at the official closing ceremony of the orientation course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of the NYSC State Governing Board, Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika, Ibas encouraged the corps members to consider Rivers State their home throughout their service year. He urged them to serve with commitment and integrity in order to leave behind lasting, positive legacies.
In his remarks, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe, expressed gratitude to the SOLAD for his support, particularly for the recent provision of 1,000 brand-new mattresses for corps members on camp and the assurance of future upgrades to camp facilities. Oleghe, however, noted the challenges posed by heavy rainfall during the orientation, highlighting the flooding of the camp market as a major disruption.

He appealed to the state government for urgent intervention to address the issue.The NYSC coordinator further advised the corps members to embrace their postings wholeheartedly and to use their service year to build valuable life skills.
He encouraged them to focus on personal development in areas such as leadership, communication, problem-solving, and technical expertise, which would distinguish them in their future careers. A total of 1,902 corps members, comprising 811 males and 1,091 females successfully completed the orientation programme.
