Jaywon Questions Ayra Starr’s Fashion Choices, Stirs Reactions

Ayra Starr

Veteran Afrobeats singer Jaywon has stirred controversy after publicly criticising Grammy-nominated artist Ayra Starr’s choice of outfit in a recent social media post.

‎The debate began when a fan on X (formerly Twitter) asked Jaywon for his opinion on a photo of Ayra Starr wearing a skimpy blue bra that revealed much of her cleavage. Responding, the “This Year” crooner wrote: “She no get mama and papa?”

‎His remark drew a flurry of mixed reactions online, with some users accusing him of meddling in the 22-year-old’s personal life, while others backed his stance on modesty.

‎Ayra Starr, known for her bold and edgy fashion style, has frequently faced similar criticisms on Nigerian social media, with detractors tagging her outfits as “indecent.” The singer has previously addressed her upbringing, revealing she lost her father at a young age and was raised by her mother.

‎Despite repeated backlash, the Rush hitmaker has continued to embrace her signature style, describing it as an expression of her individuality and artistry.

‎The latest exchange has reignited conversations about celebrity fashion choices, personal freedom, and societal expectations in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
