Rivers NOA Chairman Urges RISIEC to Uphold Basic Standard During LGA Election

Ahead of the August 30th local government election in Rivers State, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressive Congress, APC, has handed over symbolic flags to the Chairmanship candidates and their vice at elaborate ceremonies in Port Harcourt.

Addressing the mammoth crowd at the ceremonies which held at separate locations within two days, The Chairmen of both the PDP and APC in the state, Honourable Chukwuemeka Aaron and Chief Tony Okocha advised their party faithfuls and Rivers people to be peaceful in their conduct before, during and after the election noting that their parties will emerge victorious in all the contested positions.

Following this development, the State Director of National Orientation NOA in Rivers State, Dr. Edward Banigo has urged the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC to act above board and ensure that the basic standards for conducting elections are upheld in the forthcoming local government election in the state.

While noting that the election is very crucial for people at grassroots, he called on RSIEC to avoid acts that could mar the exercise which might lead to cancelation of the election.

Dr. Banigo, who emphasized that a peaceful and secured atmosphere is required for the smooth conduct of any election, urged security agencies to perform their duty professionally and avoid being biased when carrying out their functions, during the elections.

While calling on the electorate to turn out and exercise their franchise on Election Day, the NOA State Director cautioned them against choosing candidates based on primordial sentiments, noting that only candidates who will protect their interests, should be voted for.
