Osimhen to Return to Galatasaray Action Amid Turkish Mosque Ire

‎‎Galatasaray’s head coach, Okan Buruk, has announced that Nigeria international Victor Osimhen will make his return to the field on Friday against Karagumruk, amidst ongoing controversy regarding the Turkish mosque linked to the record signing.

‎The manager of the Yellow and Reds defended his choice to leave Osimhen out of the squad for Saturday’s 3-0 win over Gaziantep, clarifying that the striker required additional time to achieve full fitness.

‎”Osimhen had a training period of five or six days,” Buruk remarked, as reported by CNN Turk.

‎”Participating during that time could have posed a risk for him. I discussed this with him, and he expressed that he was contemplating resting for this match while aiming for some playing time in the next one.”

‎The 26-year-old forward, who transferred to the Istanbul club from Napoli this summer in a record €75m deal, reported late for pre-season training due to the prolonged negotiations surrounding his transfer.

‎In the meantime, the Super Eagles star has found himself at the center of an unexpected controversy shortly after he arrived in Turkey. According to Fanatik, the Bulut Mosque in the central Karatay district of Konya, which was completed in 2008, has been listed on Google Maps as ‘Victor Osimhen Mosque.’

‎This unexpected renaming has led to complaints from worshippers, who are demanding that the original name be reinstated.

‎A member of the mosque congregation stated, “We have been a part of Bulut Mosque since we arrived here. We oppose it being renamed to Victor Osimhen. The name Victor Osimhen is Christian. As members of the mosque, we request that the authorities address this matter.”

‎Another congregant remarked, “Online, the location indicates that the mosque is named after Victor Osimhen, but this has been known as Bulut Mosque for 10 years. Everyone has recognized this place by that name.

‎He is not a player from Konyaspor. He has not contributed positively to the mosque, and he is not someone Konya will easily forget. We fail to see the connection to this.
