In light of the milestone achievements and challenges highlighted during its 25th anniversary celebration, the Forum of Presidents of Apex Ethnic Nationalities in the Niger Delta, alongside esteemed elder statesmen and opinion leaders, has commended the current leadership of the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC.
In a statement made available to TPCN on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the forum praised NDDC for its visionary approach and commitment to sustainable development across the region.
They emphasized the current Board’s emphasis on transparency, accountability, and prudent resource management, which has significantly restored stakeholder confidence.
Through inclusive engagement and community-centered planning, the Niger Delta stakeholders noted that NDDC has ensured equitable distribution of projects that reflect the genuine needs of the people.
In the health sector, they commended NDDC for constructing 142 health centers, each equipped with modern medical facilities.
According to them, the revival of the Commission’s free healthcare program and the distribution of essential medical supplies have greatly improved healthcare access, particularly in rural areas.
Additionally, the ongoing construction of the Niger Delta Regional Specialist Hospital in Port Harcourt stands as a flagship project set to offer world-class medical care and serve as a regional referral center.
In education, the Foreign Postgraduate Scholarship Program has benefited 2,323 students, while the National Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme continues to support many more. The Commission has also rehabilitated numerous schools and distributed learning materials across the region.
In October 2024, the launch of the U-Lesson initiative marked a bold step toward integrating technology into basic education, equipping students to thrive in a competitive global environment.
The Forum of Presidents of Apex Ethnic Nationalities in the Niger Delta, Elder Statesmen, and Opinion Leaders expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing a forward-thinking leadership team at the NDDC and called for continued support of the current Board.
They cautioned against any moves to dissolve the leadership at this critical juncture, warning that such action could reverse the Commission’s gains and potentially disrupt the region’s fragile stability.
The Forum also acknowledged the invaluable support of the National Assembly, ministers, governors, and other key stakeholders, whose collaboration has been vital to the Commission’s progress. They urged continued synergy in the shared mission to uplift the Niger Delta.

They commended the current Board for breaking away from the shortcomings of the past and steering the Commission toward a brighter, more inclusive future.
The stakeholders reaffirmed their unwavering support for the NDDC’s mission and encouraged all stakeholders to continue their partnership in advancing peace, prosperity, and sustainable development in the Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole.
