EFCC Chairman Urges RSU Students to Embrace Positive Use of Cyberspace

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has urged students of Rivers State University and their counterparts across the country to utilize cyber space for personal growth and national development.

Speaking at the first edition of the Digital Festival of the Rivers State University, which was held on Friday 8 August 2025 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the EFCC Chairman represented by the Head, Cybercrime Section of the Commission, Chief Superintendent of the EFCC, Ibrahim Musa called on the students to view the internet as a platform for innovation, learning, and legitimate enterprise.

Mr. Olukoyede while speaking on the benefits of digital assets such as bitcoin, encouraged students to continuously explore their positive applications but warned against internet fraud and other illicit activities.

He decried the high rate of cybercrime in the country which he noted had tarnished Nigeria’s image internationally, despite being known as the Giant of Africa.

Also speaking at the event, Mr. Jonah Emmanuel, the Director of Excellence Academy, Business & Innovative Professional, appealed to the students to leverage the opportunities available on the internet to sell their ideas, create solutions, and earn legitimate income.

The event which had discussion on the topic, “Proper Use of the Cyber World for Gain Getting”, also brought together technology experts and innovators to inspire students towards positive engagement in the digital world.
